A final farewell to EC

Today goes down in the books, as my last day of work at Eastside Catholic.  It is a bittersweet moment as I drop off my keys, computer and close the door on a successful career there.  I'm proud of everything I have accomplished there and the legacy I leave behind.  I will be forever grateful to have worked with some of the finest colleagues I have ever had the privilege to know. Their integrity, passion and commitment for their subjects and students was palpable and did not go unnoticed by most.  I've counted myself lucky to be among them.  Working with my students, casts and crews has been some of the great joys of my life and I will never forget the road we travelled to build a Drama program together.

It is with a fond farewell that a bid EC adieu.

Now the next adventure truly begins!

Continued Goodbyes

Today is Eastside Catholic High School's 2010 graduation.  It is a day where I process in with my fellow faculty members to send our students off into the bigger world.  For four years we have mentored, guided, parented, corrected, held accountable, as well as laughed and cried with these fabulous young people.  I am proud to say I have been their teacher.  It is not without a welled eye that I write this as I will be leaving out into the bigger world myself.  Commencement… not an ending rather a new beginning.  God speed fellow travelers.

The jouney begins...

You know that "list" you have in your head of things you want to accomplish during your time on this planet?   My list, contained a want to complete a year of service in another country.  I was always going to wait until I retired but as a wise woman (thanks Grandma Joanie) said to me... why wait?  Why indeed? This blog will follow just such an adventure. So on August 24th, 2010, I will set off for my community service tour of duty in Ireland.  I will be working at Glencree, a retreat center for peace and reconciliation.

Like any great adventure, the preparation begins long before. Greetings and goodbyes have filled these last few months as I started the process of finding a place to spend my year.  "Timimg is everything" and this old addage has proven true.  After many years of teaching - a profession I love - it was time to take a sabbatical and gain new energy.  Why 2010 - 2011? Two most important reasons... Ross & Tori.  My children are now adults and begining on their own life adventures.  They are happy, healthy and independant; so mom can go and do something crazy now before the next generation (aka grandchildren) becomes a reality and I won't want to miss a minute!

This is already proving to be quite a ride...
